Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary
Date TBD

Several of the kids in the group have expressed interest in doing a project serving animals. In response, we have two new projects: one serving companion animals (see Feb) and this one about farm animals (in the Fall). Of course, not all children (or parents) will be interested in these projects; as with all Kids Care Club projects, participation is entirely optional!

The aim of this project is to give the children a chance to learn about an organization that provides sanctuary to abused and abandoned farm animals. Older children will get an opportunity for some hands-on experience helping at the sanctuary.

This project will support the Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary. There are three parts to this project:

1. Collection Drive
When the date gets closer, an email will go out asking for you to express interest. Those kids who express interest will meet (or possible just discuss over email) how they would like to contribute to the sanctuary. Options are to do some sort of fundraiser and donate cash; or to collect items from folks in town that can be donated to the sanctuary for them to sell in their yearly yard sale and/or silent auction.

2. Educational Talk and Tour of the Farm
Kids and parents who would like to learn more can go on a field trip to the farm, which is located in Poolesville Maryalnd.

3. Volunteering
Kids ages 9 and up who want to get even more up close and personal can volunteer to spend a few hours helping out with animal care, cleaning barns and pastures.

If you have questions right away about this project, please contact Tammie. An email will go out to everyone as the date approaches.
