Great American Bake Sale
June 12, 2004

Every fourth person standing in a soup kitchen line is a child. Every year that a child grows up in poverty costs $9,000 in lost future productivity over his or her working life. Each year, thirteen million children in the United States are hungry or at risk of hunger. Helping them can be a piece of cake. That's why PARADE Magazine and Share Our Strength, a leading national anti-hunger organization, are hosting the second annual Great American Bake Sale™ to support the fight to end child hunger in America. The Great American Bake Sale was introduced last spring by PARADE Magazine and Share Our Strength. More than 350,000 Americans took part, helping to raise more than $1 million to fight child hunger in the U.S. From funds raised, Share Our Strength awarded grants to innovative nonprofits fighting child hunger across the country.

All ages of the Cheverly Kids Care Club participated in the Great American Bake Sale. Before the event, the kids got together to learn and talk about hunger, and to make signs (including our beautiful Cheverly Kids Care Club banner!)

Many Cheverly Kids Care Club families baked, and several kids worked at the bake sale table.
